Disclaimers and Other Legal Stuff:
This isn't meant to scare anyone off, but in all facets of life, things happen that piss people off, and those people often try to blame other people.  So please pay close attention.  First of all, everything on this page is subject to change without notice!  The latest information will be posted here whenever possible, but changes may occur at the last minute (or even during the ride/event) due to weather, mechanical problems, time constraints, or anything else "Murphy" may throw out at us.  The trail leader always has the last word, so if in any doubt, contact the listed trail leader.  Also, the trail ride/event begins at the meeting location listed below; not at the trailhead, not at such-'n-such intersection, not anywhere else.  So if you intend to meet up with us anywhere except for the designated meeting location and no one shows up, that's your problem.  Something may have changed and you weren't at the meeting location to get the word.  Next, come prepared.  At a minimum, your vehicle should have tow points, both front and rear.  That way if you get stuck, we can pull you out without damaging your vehicle or ours!  Bring proper protection from the weather, and enough food and water for everyone in your vehicle.  No alcohol, though; not on the road or on the trail.  If we see you with alcohol, you will be asked to leave.  Also, make sure your vehicle is trail worthy and appropriately equipped for the particular trail.  In other words, don't bring your 31"-tired Jeep to Cimarron Mesa, unless you just came out to watch.  We won't leave you out there to die, but we don't want to spend all day fixing your junk either.  And finally, whether or not you read this disclaimer or sign any waivers or releases of liability, if you ride with the New Mexico 4-Wheelers, and you or your vehicle gets hurt (scratched, dented, bent, broken, or burned to the ground), don't blame us.  Driving your vehicle (both on- and off-road) is dangerous, that's why you buy insurance. If you don't want anything "bad" to happen to your vehicle, leave it in your garage.  While on the trail, if you don't feel comfortable doing a particular obstacle, don't do it!  Take the by-pass or turn around and go home.  If someone else is "spotting" you on an obstacle and something bad happens, it's still your fault.
In summary, you are completely responsible for yourself, your passengers, your vehicle, and the safety of all three!

Notes:

  1. Club Meeting at the Church: During the "winter" months (October thru April), Club Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month (except for December) at 7:00 p.m., at the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Academy and Moon, which is east of Wyoming.

  2. Club Meeting at Member's House: During the "summer" months (May through September), as well as the Christmas Party (December), Club Meetings are held at one of our member's houses usually on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 5 pm (check the schedule above for the actual date).  It's a potluck affair, so bring a dish to share.  Also bring your lawn chair and eating utensils.  Maps and directions will be posted on the Member's Only Page approximately 2 weeks prior to the meeting.  Guests interested in attending, please contact the webmaster for directions.

  3. Special Event: Additional information on "Special Events" is available on the Member's Only Page.  However, that doesn't necessarily mean that guests aren't welcome to participate in these events!  However, in some cases, they are reserved for Members only.  If you don't have access to the Member's Only Page, and want more information, please e-mail the webmaster or the Contact Person for this event.

  4. Run to Ruidoso:  We will meet the Ruidoso Ridge Runners at a camping area above Bonito Lake Friday night, September 17th (earlier for those who can go earlier!).  One of their members has a ranch that will allow us to go four wheeling there on Saturday.  They will have a shorter run on Sunday for those that want to attend.  PLEASE put this on your calendars as this is the first time that we have been invited to run with these folks!  They are really nice people and are gracious enough to let us tag along with them that weekend.  The camping spot is available to all camping types, including RVs.  I am told you cross a small stream, but it is quite doable even for the long ones.  However, I can get more information about the exact spot and miles to it from the turn off to Bonito Lake and post it once I know it.  This is a family run and is open to all guests and members.  Please send confirmation to myself and Tony Louderbough for purposes of planning.  Thanks!

UPDATE--All:  I have talked with the Ruidoso Ridge Runners and they have this to say about the camping:  The primitive camping spots are along the Nogal Canyon Road (enter from the village of Nogal on Hwy 37) and it is about 4 miles in on a dirt road.  This road has had washouts and washboards off-and-on.  No telling if it has been graded or not lately.  Charlie Martinez (RRR President) tells me it is quite doable in an RV or truck camper.  The cost is free for this alternative and there is plenty of space available.

For those wanting something else, I offer the following:  Mama Bear RV Park in Capitan, NM 575-354-2394 or Bonito Hollow RV Park & Campground in Alto, NM 575-336-4325.  The Mama Bear Park has limited spaces available.  I did not get in touch with Bonito Hollow, but believe they have plenty of space available.  HOWEVER, there is large motorcycle event in Ruidoso that weekend and it generates a lot of visitors to that area.  There is also an RV Park called Little Creek in Alto (north edge of Ruidoso) and it too may have space available as could the park in Carrizozo.  At any rate the distance between these spots is minimal and easy to do that morning.

For those wanting to come down for the day only, we will meet at the Shell Gas Station in Capitan at 9:00 AM and pull out at 9:30 AM sharp on Saturday morning September 18th.  Runs for Sunday will be by request only.  We will have a potluck supper (dinner to you city folks) at the campsite along Nogal Canyon Road Saturday evening.  Bring something to share if you would like to attend.  Runs are expected to be easy to moderate.

  5. Gila Trip: Pat & Sue Brady are leading an “expedition” trip through the Gila area that promises to show you things you have never seen down there!  This is a “trekking” style trip where you MUST be self-sufficient and prepared for anything.  You will not be near ANY gas stations for a minimum of three (3) days and therefore must take your gas with you.  Their plans are to begin this trip on Wednesday, September 22nd and end on Sunday September 26th.  More details are contained in the ATTACHED e-mail that Pat sent out on 17 Aug.

  6. Caballo Lake Campout & Trail Ride:  We will be camping at our "usual" spot, Caballo State Park Riverside Camp area.   Take I-25 South to Exit # 59 (about 20 miles south of Truth or Consequences).  Turn left and directly into the the Riverside Camp area.  Trail ride on Saturday to the Caballo Mountain area will leave the camp area at 8:30 am.  Return home Sunday morning.  Again, we will be camping at the Caballo Reservoir RIVER (there’s more than one) campground.  This is a state campground complete with showers.  It has room for every type of RV, trailer, or tent.  It is about $8 a night for tents and little more for RVs/trailers (look it up on the web at NM  State Parks).  We will have a potluck dinner on Saturday night for those that want to camp.  We leave the campground at 8:30 AM sharp!!  This is a moderate to hard run (rocks, off camber spots, rocks, ledges, rocks, and two tracks through the desert).  Oh, did I mention there are rocks?!  We travel an old mining trail and then an old stage coach route between the Rio Grande River and Jornada del Muerto (Valley of Death).  It is one of the true 4WD Trails in New Mexico!  Be ready to for anything as you never know what Mother Nature can deal out.  We have had rain, sun, and snow!  I hope to see you there!  Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
