Update 1: Meeting time & location changed to 8:30am at the Sandia Ranger Station in Tijeras, NM. We'll depart the Ranger Station shortly after 8:30 and caravan to Manzano, NM arriving at 9:30am (map attached).
Update 2: Route changed to the Torreon-Tajique Loop since the Manzano route was closed southwest of Manzano due to a recent snowfall.
Let's explorer the Manzano Mountains. We completed a pre-run on 12/30/17 and determined that all roads were open without any snow. The Mountainair Ranger Station indicated the Manzano Mountains District will stay open as long as snow isn't received.
We'll meet in Manzano, NM on the west side of NM-55 across from the white church. We'll head west toward Red Canyon Campground, then turn south on FR-522 and meander through several Forest Service roads toward the Abo Pueblo Salinals Missions near US-60.
We’ll travel through the NM High Desert Plateau with primarily piñon/cedar trees and some scrub oak. Minimal NM pin-striping is expected. Off-road tires with front/rear recovery points and a CB are highly recommended.
Hope you can join us on this Manzano adventure! Please email me if you have any questions.
