This run is a Club favorite! This will be an Moderate/Easy ride. The morning will be Moderate, the afternoon will be Easier.
We will meet at Sky City Casino at 8:00 and depart by 8:30. Meet around the back at the passenger car gas station, across from the hotel. Depending on the trails, we should be airing up and heading home by 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Trailered rigs welcome, you can unload at the meetup area.
From the start point we have a 5 mile pavement ride to get to the dirt, where we will air down. The first half of the day is the toughest & funnest part. It takes a couple of hours to climb the mountain, all uphill with nice views. We ran this in May 2024, and it had changed (gotten tougher :-) in the three years since we were last on it. We'll see how Winter 2024 changes it again!
The morning will be where we work to climb the mountain, the rest of the day is easier terrain taking us to more incredible views, one at 11,000' viewing the Sandia Mtns from 65 miles away. The day is 54.3 miles from air-down to air-up. It's 90% loops, just a 5 mile access road done twice.
Bring food and drink for lunch under the trees. Great scenery and almost 360 degree views at times!
Rig Requirements: large tires recommended, lifted rigs always good, but stock should be ok too. Lockers & extra skid plates may be helpful but shouldn't be mandatory. Winches always great to have, hopefully not required. Air down/Air up capability (others may have a spare compressor to loan out). GMRS radio (I have 2 extra handhelds I can loan out)..
