Participant Responsibility Notice
New Mexico 4-Wheelers guests and members will be meeting for a group activity as indicated below. Drivers are responsible for the safe operation of their own vehicles and should evaluate obstacles based on their own comfort and experience level and vehicle capability.
This is a volunteer recreational activity. Participants are responsible for their own safety, vehicle operation, and compliance with land-use rules.
Peter Vollers showed us a really cool route during the 2026 Chile Challenge that took us high up on the western side of the Caballo Mountains and I wanted to invite the club to do this trail again. Given this is over 2.5 hours to the trailhead, we will be bringing the RV and staying in the T or C/Elephant Butte area Friday-Sunday. This run is highly contengent on the weather. Since it is the off season, I am going to wait till it gets closer to book my accomodations.
The Trail: This is a 5, mostly because of a single ledge. However, there will be pinstriping, there are off-camber spots, and there are steep ravine crossings that will drag tail on any rig with rear overhang. 33" tires are managable on Wranglers, Broncos, or lifted 4-Runners, trucks will drag tail. 35"+ tires are perfect. Plan for about 7 hours on the trail. Be at the meet point listed above (Visible to Members Only) with a full tank of gas, food, water, and layers of clothing ready for a 8AM departure on Saturday, Nov 21. There will be about 30 minutes of highway driving before we get to the dirt.
