Annual Christmas Tree Run

Sat Dec 2, 2017 9:00AM     RIDE COMPLETED

Do you want to cut your own tree? if so you just need to purchase a permit at the Visitor's Center for $ 10.00.  We will meet at the Walatowa Visitor's Center 9:00am and leave by 9:30am.  This will be an easy run through the Jemez Mountains to a great spot to chose a tree if you like or just come along for the ride.  Please bring lunch, snacks and water. Don't forget your saw and tie downs or rope to secure your tree.

Lots of good looking blue spruce trees possible some snow and mud.  We will be going north so it will be an all day run.

Christmas permits will be available at the Walatowa Visitor's Center.  Permits are usually available from the end of November until Christmas Eve. The nonrefundable permits are for personal use only and may be purchased for $10 by check, credit/debit card or cash at Ranger Stations and vendors that have permits to sell.  Permit purchasers receive a tree tag, map and guidelines for harvesting a tree. One tag is valid for a tree up to five inches in diameter and 10 feet in height.  Trees taller than 10 feet and/or wider than five inches require an additional tag.  For example, a 15-foot tree requires two tags.  The Santa Fe National Forest has a three-tag limit per person.

Based on the great weather all tire types will be accepted for this run. Vehicle should have front and rear recovery points,   CBs and winches are encouraged.

NM4W Members: Please note that it's the tail leader's responsibility to set vehicle restrictions relative to the anticipated terrain and weather conditions. These restrictions are published on the event calendar prior to each 4X4 run to help ensure that all vehicles can navigate the terrain and safely return to the air-up point when the ride concludes. If you have questions or concerns about the listed vehicle restrictions, please contact the trail leader directly.
