We spent a beautiful day rock crawling in the desert of New Mexico! 10 rigs, including mine, had fun noodling around down at Gordy's Hill OHV area. We met at the truck stop in Lemitar and then headed for the kiosk to air down. We spent the morning on Lower Amado. Several rigs, including mine, were testing recent mods and it gave us a good opportunity to have some fun without stressing them out too hard.
One section of Lower Amado is turning into a baby boulder garden and gave us reason to pull out winch lines, traction boards, and hi-lift jacks to do some recovery. The more toys that come out, the more fun was had, right?!? :-) It was interesting to see the 2 doors having a harder time getting through there - they'd go up and over one or two boulders and drop down behind them, sometimes turtling on them before the back tires could get in the game to help. Meanwhile the Gladiators totally owned that section - their longer wheelbases kept them up and off the boulders and they made it look easy. Roles were reversed on some tight turns, LOL!
Veteran and new crawlers all had fun. There was minor body damage on a front quarter panel and some new shiny spots underneath. We stopped for lunch at Pucker Falls, then took The Great Escape to The Causeway to Upper Amado in the afternoon. It was fun to see all of our new trail signs all over the place, although we came across one in the wrong place which will need to get moved. I had hoped to have us off the trail about 3, and we were pulling back into the kiosk to air up at 3:05!
