5th Annual Food Drive
By Frank G. Whiston (Trail Tales December 2012)
The 5th Annual Food Drive is now behind us and I think that it was a great success! I (Frank Whiston) would like to thank each of you who donated or participated. We ended up with about a dozen vehicles as we have in the past to show up to the channel 4 live broadcast at ABQ Uptown. This is a very manageable size group considering that the event was only a little bit of Mall Crawling. Mall crawling comes with a new set of challenges. Instead of navigating through dirt, rocks and trees we were faced with cubs, a ton of cars, shoppers, news anchors, set lights and cameras which we could not us for traction the way we might with objects on the trail. The broadcasting crew seemed much more organized this year and the drop-off went very smooth and more quickly in years past (I think that they are getting used to us being a part of this). As the vehicles emptied the food donations, most of us migrated over to Jason’s Deli for dinner. All in attendance had a good time and enjoyed the relaxed setting and good conversation. Check out the club website for photos of the event. I’ll say it again; the experience of starting off the holiday season by participating in this food drive was very heartwarming. It really helps set the mood for Thanksgiving and Christmas and is a good reminder for all that is taken for granted. I feel that we are going to need to change our meeting place for next year. Winrock Center seems to beginning to come back to life with new restaurants and a Target store popping up, this year indicated that it will be the last time to rendezvous in the location that we have become accustomed to. We will worry about that when next year’s event comes closer.
