The Cedro Peak ride met at the Sandia Ranger Station at 9:00am on Saturday, February 10 with fifteen NM4W vehicles. Since several club members posted the ride on social media, an additional 10 vehicles joined the 4x4 caravan. After airing-down and obtaining signatures on the liability waiver forms, the vehicles departed the Ranger Station at 9:30am and headed east on FR-462 then turned south on FR-13. Since there were 25 vehicles in the ride, both a mid-gunner and a tail-gunner were used to coordinate vehicle movement and establish CB communication between all vehicles. The group parked briefly at the Cedro Peak towers to take pictures and make lunch plans. Next, the group headed south on FR-252 and had lunch at the Cedro Peak Group Campground. The concrete picnic tables and warm February sun provided a nice dining environment. The last segment of the ride was an optional drive to the stair-steps. Since it was a snowless run, and the dry rocks provided good traction, approximately one dozen 4x4 vehicles successfully climbed the steps. The ride concluded by driving to Juan Tomas Road and then airing-up at the Ranger Station. Many non-NM4W members commented on how well the ride was conducted with a pre-planned route, maintaining a well-spaced caravan without large gaps, and good CB communications during the trip. Everyone had a great time!
