The Jemez Mountains Dispersed Recreation Collaboration Clean-up Day was a very successful event! Our NM 4 Wheelers Club was one of three groups [with the NM Volunteers for the Outdoors and NM Wild being the other two] who volunteered their time and effort to clean up some areas along Forest Road 376. Eleven of our members and one guest worked the area just south of the Gilman Tunnels north to Deer Creek Landing. We all filled several large bags with trash as well as with some fascinating items [like old logging equipment], and the Forest Service was simultaneously doing a study on the areas where trash was concentrated. After several hours of the volunteer clean-up, our members met at Deer Creek Landing and went on a fun exploratory ride on Forest Road 239 to 653, where we all had lunch together under the cool shade of the tall pine trees. Some members went on to explore 558, and others looped back around on Old Peggy Mesa Road, and we all ended up back on 376 to air up at the same time. It was a great day, the weather was fabulous, and we were able to participate in this clean-up collaboration as well as have a beautiful scenic ride in the Jemez Mountains.
