Our three day trip covered over 200 miles along backcountry forest roads in three National Forests: Santa Fe, Carson, and Rio Grande. The starting point was the the Jemez Pueblo Walatoa Visitors center. Friday night's camp was north of Valles Caldera National Preserve off of FR 27 near Cienega Redonda at an elevation of about 9800 feet.
Saturday morning we dripped down to Abiquiu and stopped for lunch, fuel, and supplies. After some pavement miles we entered the Carson NF northwest of El Rito. We traveled several forest roads to Vallecitos and crossed State Road 111. The route climbed, dropped at US Highway 64 and climbed again as we traversed around Tusas Mountain. Saturday night's camp was along the Tusas Ridge near Cisneros Park near the intersection of FR 167 and FR133 at an elevation of about 9400 feet.
Sunday we continued on west of San Antonio Mountain going through Steward Meadows and climbing up next to Curces Basin Wilderness. Our route crossed Rio de Los Pinos and climbed up to the Cumbres Toltec Rail Road, Colorado border, and Rio Grande NF. The forest roads took us beside Osier Mountain and Pinorealosa Mountain where reached the highest evation of the trip at 10,985 feet. We dropped down and aired-up when we reached FR 108.
