he La Ventana Route is a superb route featuring a huge diversity of topography, geography, and flora. It is also managed by a diversity of agencies! The bulk of the route is managed by the Bureau of Land Management with the final 1.1 miles within the SFNF. Starting out high desert terrain, it meanders through the broken sandstone of La Ventana Mesa before dropping steeply on the east side toward the Forest Boundary. Crossing a strange geologic dike, the scenery changes dramatically, featuring large Ponderosa pines.
