This was a journey in the Zuni Mts beginning near McGaffey, exploring eastward toward Bluewater.
This ride was fun with moderately challenging trails, including:
- Some rocky sections and baby rock crawling but nothing too nutso. I suspect that the hard-core Jeep rock crawler types would not really consider it rock crawling. I have a lightly lifted 4runner with 33" tires and had no issues on the pre-run with careful line selection. I personally will need a spotter for one section. This is the ONLY reason I also listed the ride as "HARD." If you need HELP with picking lines, or a spotter, the group is here for you!
- A section of magical tight forest zig-zags, through full grown trees that may require folding back your side view mirrors. This is NOT the trail for vehicles wider than 80 inches. Pin-striping possible. Long bed trucks may have some trouble, but not sure... My rig is 191.3" w/o issues.
- Maybe some water, as we run along and over a few creek beds.
- We will pass by historic settler ruins that are not on the map, and experience open fields and beautiful forest views.
- There are fast and easy forest roads for the sections in between and at the end.
- Generally fun off-road trails.
